Article Summary

Kemlan XL Source Jetmaster Fireplaces Pty Ltd

I needed a new wood heater as my old Clean Air wood heater was starting to fall apart.

I looked around at a few options. I wanted to make sure that the new heater would work well with my Turboheat ducted woodfire heating system.

After making some enquires and talking to the guys at Turboheat, they recommend the Kemlan XL.

I looked into it, and as it fitted all my requirements for size, heat output and price. I decided to go ahead with purchasing it.

When purchasing this heater, I couldn’t find much customer reviews, so I decided to write a review here and hopefully, it will assist your purchase decision.

Kemlan XL Freestanding Wood Heater Features

The heater itself looks very nice. It has a simple design with a

three-stage fan. The fan controller box is attached to the power cord.

The total external dimensions are similar to my old wood heater. Yet, the internal volume of the firebox is more substantial, thus allowing for larger pieces of wood to fit in easily, such as a big night log. The available space to fit a piece of wood into the firebox entry is 600mm by 290mm.

The wood heater has a large viewing window. The window is kept clean by recirculating air in the firebox. I must say this does work. However, you do have to open the door slowly to stop any ash coming out due to this system. The window will mark if a log has fallen directly onto it while burning. Still, like all wood heater windows, this can be easily cleaned using a wet scrunched up newspaper. When the firebox is cold, dab the paper in the ash, clean the marks and wipe off the residue with a damp cloth.

Kemlan XL firebox stone

Fire bricks line the bottom and back of the firebox. The left and right side of the firebox has a large single-piece ceramic stone which extends ¾ of the way up the firebox. The baffles are also made of ceramic stone. The large ceramic stones on the sides and the baffles appear to help keep the heat in the firebox. When the firebox is hot, even with a small amount of wood, significant heat is still being produced by the heater. I have found that I use less wood to generate the same temperature as compared to my old heater, which did not have this system. One disadvantage of having stones as baffles is making sure that you don’t knock the stones when you insert wood into the firebox. It is a small price to pay, for the extra efficiency in heat production.

Conclusion

In summary, I am thrilled with the Kemlan XL freestanding wood heater. It gets icy where I live, and this heater does a great job in keeping my house warm in combination with the Turboheat ducted wood fire heating system.
